Dear Pastry: Six Days before Christmas

(Today is December 19th 2012)

Woah~~ six more days and it’s Christmas~ I’m so happy:) I just really love Christmas and other holidays or special days:) It’s not because of my religion, I just really like to enjoy those time of the year. And today I brought truffles. I think it was about two years ago, our church did a gift exchange with another and I got a bag of truffles. That day I fell in love with these. That day was the day I first tried my truffles and when I got one out, my mouth were watering. And when I put one in my mouth, it was a bit bitter from the powder but then it started to melt inside my mouth and it was really really good. I just loved it so I gave some to my friends to try it since some of them didn’t know what it was. They also thought it was delicious and we kept eating them until we realized that there were no more. ūüôā This truffle brought me one of my good memories from past and after that I totally forgot about it.

Then I was surfing on internet to find more pastry and other baking recipes, I came across this recipe and I wondered where I saw this and that brought my memory back. So I kept searching for a easy and simple recipe of something I could do since I’m a beginner. I still can remember that flavor of the chocolate and bitter cocoa powder that covered the¬†chocolates, the smooth, silky texture which swirled around my tongue and the buttery flavor as it melted. With that memory of truffles, I hope that it has similar flavors as that day.

And I hope with this truffle that you can also have good memories about it. Like I said in my other posts, food is food but they have deeper meaning to it and is part of your memories and it brings joy by having that memory back in your heart and mind. For me I don’t really enjoy eating food but this is just fun. Having a good time with one another. Sharing your joy with them. With these Truffles. No one knows what these sweets could mean to you~

Dear Pastry: Seven days before Christmas

Picture of Savannah Cheesecake Cookies Recipe

(Today is December 18th, 2012)

I remembered to write my blog~ Yeay for me!! (I’m so spacing out..I went to bed at 3¬†am¬†and woke up 4 hours later..) Don’t ever do something like that like I did..Staying up all night preparing for finals and working on a presentation which I did present today…I was so nervous and I could have done better and I just couldn’t..I have stage fright and it just freaks me out.. It’s really stupid and I with I could just talk naturally in front of others. Well enough about that.

Well today I don’t really have to talk about me…wait..I’m not here to talk about me..(just ignore me..) Anyway well today I’m with cheesecake. I chose cheesecake as today’s pastry because it’s something that reminds me of my mom. She really loves cheese and cheesecake. I personally, never really liked the texture of cheesecake but after eating those really good cheesecake I grew to like them more and more. And since my mom’s birthday is Christmas Eve, I’m planning to make this for her instead of buying a cake. I never will know why she like it so much but I think it’s same as me liking chocolate and her having the liking of cheesecake.

Every time I think of a cheesecake or look at them, it always reminds me of my mom and her smiling. So when I make this for her I hope to see her smile again like that time. It’s just really nice that a food like this would remind you of someone that you can see that food is not all about making and eating. It’s about sharing and enjoying the times together as families and friends and that these food can actually remind you someone you really care about. And I like that a lot. That there’s a meaning of why I’m making them.

So enjoy with one another. And share your joy of creating happiness. with food.

Dear Pastry: Eight Days before Christmas

“Basic Butter Cookie”

(today is December 17th, 2012)

After posting my 9th days before Christmas I ended up doing something else and I almost forgot today’s post. Since I’m still a student, I realized that I don’t really have that much time to post these but I’m trying hard to post these every single day and not get behind on this~ When I’m writing this, it feels like I’m writing a diary but a public diary I suppose. But it’s takes my random thoughts away every time I write and post each blog. And I really enjoy this. (maybe?) Well that’s it for me~~

For our eight days before Christmas special, it’s a simple “Basic Butter Cookie” (doesn’t it sound simple but good?) I picked this recipe because I personally think, it would be sweet but soft at the same time and a good dessert with a cup of tea~ I just love sweets; well they are my favorites~ I absolutely love them and enjoy them very much. Anyway it’s mostly because when I was little, I tried one the butter cookie and I fell in love with them. Even though I was young at that time, I could still remember those swirls of butter flavor inside my mouth and always wanted to make these, too.

I’m not sure yet if I could still taste that rich butter flavor when I was young but it’s worth a try. Even for these cookies they have their own histories and they are sometimes a symbol in our life. And for me, this butter cookie is part of my childhood memory and it’s nice to remember something from your childhood. And to share it with others like I’m sharing my stories and my experiences here. And I hope you to have something to share.

For some people making something or cooking for is something you have to do. But to me, I love making foods and desserts for others. Me looking at others eating and them telling me how good it is and that I should make more, I want to make more and it just brings joy to me. When I’m making something, I think of others eating my food happily and with an smile paste to their face ^^ That just makes my day:)

So share with one another.

Dear Pastry: Nine Days before Christmas

Picture of Chocolate Cake Roll Recipe

(Today is December 16, 2012)

Ah!! I missed it~~ Yesterday I was like, oh I should post it for today and I forgot about it..dang it…I never thought I could actually forget about it. But I’m here today? (ha-ha…the awkward laugh). Hmm..Anyway well now I have to post two now since I “forgot” to post yesterday’s.¬†Oops! I should have known and post it when I remembered. Then I forgot it because I had to study for my math finals or I have to say Goodbye to my dearest phone~~ And I really don’t want that over the break and i would be very mad at myself… Well enough about my life story..(yea..this isn’t about you).

Well apparently yesterday was the 9th days before Christmas and I was so busy I “forgot” about it and I didn’t know the date either. Anyway, well since I LOVE roll cake and I really want to make it over the break IF I do good on my FINALS and my mood would be up and happy. Well I hope so too..Well yea.. ROLL CAKE. I love these so much~ They are one of my favorites and I’m actually planning to make two or three roll cakes for the Christmas pot luck at my church and I’m not sure what kind of flavor I should do and to cream between the cake and I nee ideas~ If your willing to please give me any ideas and flavors~~ But after final my youth group is having a party and I’m making vanilla roll cake with just regular cream filling. (I hope they like because I don’t how it will turn out to be).

And about the roll cake, I heard from lot of people that this is hard to make it first but will get better if practiced and I don’t if that’s true and others said it’s an easy recipe but I don’t if that’s true either. So I guess I got to find that out myself. And I really hope that I make it~ So I can share and enjoy my time together as a group. I don’t if this is just me but I really like making sweets and I really do enjoy and love sharing it to others especially families and friends. And when others enjoy something I make and I just feel really happy and I want to make more.

recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/chocolate-cake-roll-recipe/index.html

I think roll cakes are good dessert to eat together as a group and a good present to give to your neighbors, friends and families. Just slices them and eat them with coffee or teas and even milk for little children~

Enjoy your week everyone ^^

Picture of JIF¬ģ Chocolate Hazelnut Peanut Butter Pinwheel Cookies Recipe

(Today is December 13th 2012)

Yeay! Today is exactly(?) twelve days before Christmas and next week is finals for me~ (not so fun and not so exciting).. But still I’m so happy that from today we only have twelve days of Christmas and soon it will be New Years and it’s going to 2013. And everyone will be like wow the year went fast…Oh it felt like yesterday was my first day of junior year~ (well I didn’t feel that way..it went so slow til now..). Anyway~ since today is twelve days ¬†before Christmas I thought of something fun~ Well like the title of my post; I am going to write and post twelve days of Christmas cookies and other delicious desserts. (If I can find them..:))

And for this post and so on for my other eleven post that would soon be here~ It took me forever to pick out each cookies for each post. So I don’t write about same thing. When I post a recipe or something I usually make them first or afterward posting it but for this I can’t..Since next week is my important FINALS and I gotta do good on it or else…well I don’t even want to think about that part yet~~

Anyhow, today’s first cookie is..(drum roll please)

…JIF¬ģ Chocolate Hazelnut Peanut Butter Pinwheel Cookies!!

Well personally I don’t like peanut butter but I love chocolate hazelnut so I picked this as our first recipe of “Twelve days before Christmas”

And this cookie is what I always wanted to make to without the peanut butter (I shall substitute this with something I hope so.) And if I do awesome during finals I plan to make this cookie during the break and enjoy my break from school (jail..just kidding).

And the recipe for this cookie is: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/chocolate-hazelnut-peanut-butter-pinwheel-cookies-recipe/index.html

I just love foodnetwork.com and their recipes~^^

And that’s it for today;)

Dear Pastry: Beignets

Image

Beignets are doughnuts; dessert from the south and fried in a deep fryer and covered with powder sugar. These southern doughnuts are  crispy and sweet on outside and soft and chewy on the inside that in my opinion they are better than the original donuts you buy at stores.

Beignets (pronounced Ben YAY with the accent on the second syllable) is French for “fried dough”. In the U.S. it is a pastry made from deep-fried dough, much like a doughnut, and sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar, or¬†frosting¬† Beignets are also popular as an appetizer, with fillings such as maple or fruit preserves.

They are a popular donut at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. (source from http://kitchenproject.com/history/MardiGras/Beignet/index.htm)

And we made this for our multicultural food class and everyone enjoyed and we couldn’t stop ourselves form eating and soon we ran out ūüôā At first I thought it would be really bad but turned out it’s lot better and delicious than I though it would be and the¬†Beignets went really well with coffee and tea. It just made my day and I tried to make it at home but I couldn’t find any yeast..ugh.. But hope to make them someday and eat it with my families and friends.¬†

Recipe:  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/french-quarter-beignets-recipe/index.html (I think foodnetwork has really good recipes so I mostly use it from them).
